How to Clean a Refinished Bathtub

Nothing beats the sparkle of a freshly cleaned tub, but for owners of older tubs, achieving this kind of clean may be impossible. Over time, the glazing in the tub scratches and erodes, creating a dull, dingy look. At Fox Valley Bathtub Refinishing, we offer a quick, affordable solution for damaged tubs and showers: bathtub refinishing.  The primary question we get about bathtub refinishing is two-fold: how long will it last, and how do I clean it?

Proper Care for a Finish That Lasts

Before investing in bathtub refinishing services, most people want to know two things: how long will the finish last, and how do I clean it? These two questions are intricately related because proper maintenance is key to the longevity of your tub. If properly cleaned and maintained, the new finish on your tub should last for 10-15 years.

Non-Abrasive Cleaners Are the Way to Go

While our surfaces are made to last, they are not indestructible. We recommend using mild, non-abrasive cleaners on refinished surfaces. Cleaners that are acid-based or contain ammonia will erode the tub’s glazing. We also strongly suggest using a soft cloth or sponge to clean your tub. Other Tips

In addition to proper cleaning, we have a few other simple suggestions to keep your tub in great shape for the long-haul. We recommend the use of shower caddies or baskets to store soaps, shampoos, etc. Items left sitting on the edge of the tub can cause water to pool and discolor the finish. Also, never use appliques or bathmats with suction cups on the bottom as these may damage the finish. Lastly, consider drying your tub after each use. Simply wiping the surface with a towel will prevent water from pooling, inhibit mold growth, and keep your shower sparkling for longer.
