At Fox Valley Bathtub Refinishing, we have refinished countless bathtubs and showers in St. Charles and the surrounding Chicago areas. Time and time again, we have provided flawless results to our customers and saved them thousands of dollars on bathtub replacements. One question that occasionally comes up is, “Can you repair my previously refinished bathtub?” The short answer to that question: yes!

Bathtub Refinishing

How Long Should a Refinished Tub Last?

If properly cleaned and cared for, a refinished surface from Fox Valley should last 10-15 years. If the tub is used infrequently (such as in a guest bathroom, for example), it could last much longer. Unfortunately, many of the refinished tubs we repair were not professionally or properly done. We’ve seen DIY jobs peel in as little as two years!

Signs of Damage

When a refinished surface comes to the end of its life, homeowners notice a variety of issues with the finish. Over time, the surface loses its luster and becomes dull. Additionally, the top layer of epoxy can begin to flake and peel. If water infiltrates the damaged area, the damage can spread to otherwise unaffected areas of the tub. Plus, just like any other kind of bathtub, refinished surfaces are prone to scratches, chips, and cracks if not well cared for.

Refinishing… Again

When the time comes to refinish your tub again, the process remains much the same as with an initial reglazing. First, we will acid etch the tub with hydrofluoric acid. Once the acid has properly abraded the surface, we will repair all chips and cracks. Then, we will apply silane, one of the world’s strongest adhesion promoters, and a durable, high-gloss epoxy to create a smooth, long-lasting finish.

Warranty

At Fox Valley, we take pride in our work and believe in the services we offer. As such, we offer a limited five-year warranty against peeling or failure of the adhesion coating for residential properties. With proper care and maintenance, your newly reglazed bathtub should sparkle for many years to come.
